EcoHoney Final Event: Insights & Impact
After three years of extensive research and cross-border collaboration, the EcoHoney Project is coming to a close. To mark the closing of this project, the MBB will host a final conference on April 13th. This event marks the culmination of efforts with European and national partners to strengthen the beekeeping industry.
Empowering the Next Generation of Beekeepers
The project aims to empower farmers and newcomers to transition to sustainable honey production and improve their marketing skills by means of three training handbooks. These handbooks also aim to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect bees, pollinators, and their habitats.
As demonstrated during a successful pilot event in early March, these handbooks are uploaded on an EU-funded online platform featuring other interactive material tailored to the modern beekeeping community, such as interviews with apiarists from across Europe, and other tutorials and quizzes.
These resources provide a deep dive into the essentials of apiculture, covering:
- The Heritage of Apiculture: An exploration of the history of bees and the evolution of bee-related products.
- Modern Marketing: Insight into how the commercial landscape for honey and hive products has transformed over the years.
- Sustainable Excellence: Guidelines on implementing organic and environmentally conscious principles in honey production.

A Roadmap for All
The project’s resources are designed to meet the specific needs of diverse groups, ensuring the industry’s long-term viability:
- Professional Beekeepers: Focusing on scaling operations and implementing advanced, efficient techniques.
- Aspiring Hobbyists: Providing a clear, accessible roadmap for those looking to start their very first hive.
- Entrepreneurs: Offering strategic marketing insights to help grow businesses within the honey production and pollination service sectors.
Final Conference
The upcoming conference on April 13th will not only highlight these key findings but will also provide a vital platform for stakeholders to discuss the future of the industry. It stands as a testament to the project’s lasting commitment to education, environmental sustainability, and economic growth within the Mediterranean beekeeping sector.
