Job Description
The Malta Business Bureau (MBB) is the EU-business advisory organisation for The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA), with offices in Malta and Brussels.
We are seeking to recruit a Projects Executive to implement several newly awarded EU projects of which the MBB is a partner. The chosen candidate will work within the ambit of: (1) Sustainability, (2) Education & Training, (3) Digitalisation and (4) Entrepreneurship & Business Support.
This is a full-time position and remuneration shall be provided according to the selected candidate’s professional experience. Mentoring shall be provided accordingly.
Criteria
The applicant must possess the following:
- A recognised University degree (NQF Level 6 qualification) in a relevant area such as European Studies, Public Policy, Environmental Sciences, Business Studies or similar.
- Sound knowledge of EU and business affairs.
- Experience in project development and/or implementation will be considered an asset.
- Capable of reaching set targets within established and agreed performance levels.
- Good time-management, presentation skills and proficient writing in both Maltese and English.
- Have a strong work ethic, and a professional attitude.
- Ability to work well and participate in a team environment.
- Organized and able to multitask under minimum supervision.
Functions & Responsibilities
- Conduct the day-to-day duties of projects coordination and administration, and act as the respective project’s contact person.
- Act as Co-Coordinator on the Enterprise Europe Network project which offers business support services relating to funding opportunities, internationalisation, and more (training will be provided).
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including project partners, service-providers, project participants, government, and local businesses.
- Ensure that all activities are compliant with the guidelines of the respective project.
- Effectively reach projects’ deliverables and milestones in a timely manner, making use of the full project budget allocated to MBB.
- Draft and deliver progress reports and any required documentation on the commitment of expenditure and performance of the projects.
- Willing to travel to attend EU project meetings, events, and other project activities, representing the MBB.
- Facilitate the collaboration of MBB with national and European stakeholders/networks.
- Identify initiatives and opportunities through which MBB can continue to build upon the positive outcomes of its previous projects.

The Malta Business Bureau represents the Malta Chamber and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association ( MHRA) through its offices in both Brussels and Malta. Acting as an interface between EU and the Malta Business Community, it liaises directly with the European institutions, the Maltese Permanent Representation to the EU, Business Europe, Eurochambres and HOTREC on all policy and funding issues affecting Maltese business interests.
Its three main areas of focus are:
- EU policy development – relaying EU policy developments and advocating for Maltese business interest as well as national policymakers
- EU projects – the opportunity of tapping into EU funding opportunities that benefit the local business community
- Business support – helping enterprises to grow and capitalise on the opportunities offered by the European single market

We are seeking an enterprising and visionary leader to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malta Business Bureau (MBB). As CEO, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing strategic direction, driving growth, networking and ensuring the overall success of the organisation. The CEO will lead a talented team that specialises in different areas including EU policy, project management, business support and communication.
Whilst consistently encouraging MBB’s open-door policy, the CEO will promote personal and professional talent development throughout the organisation as a key driver of success.
Whilst ensuring continuity, the CEO will drive and encourage any necessary changes in MBB’s operations that will help to achieve further efficiencies and continuous improvement in its processes.
Key role responsibilities include:
- Responsible for managing the overall operations, acting as the main point of communication for the Board of Directors and its shareholders
- Lead the organisation to be at the fore in monitoring EU policy development and in pre-empting potential impacts that could affect the local business community
- Inform the business community about developments occurring at EU policy level and gather opinions to convey during the EU legislative process
- Through the Brussels representative office, maintain regular contact with the EU institutions, the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU in Brussels and relevant Ministries and Members of the European Parliament; liaise closely with pan European business organisations including Business Europe, Eurochambres and
- Identify EU funding opportunities and submit applications of project proposals aimed at benefiting the Maltese business community
- Oversee the proper and timely implementation of EU and National Projects managed by the MBB projects team to ensure the attainment of project KPI’s and the full recovery of funds
- Ensure the economic sustainability of the organisation through strong focus on Business Development and revenue generation
- Raise the organisation’s public profile by maintaining regular visibility through effective external communications as well as optimisation of MBB’s media channels and publications
- Create a positive culture and ensure employee engagement and motivation
- Ensure transparent and high standards in financial management, whilst ensuring an operational approach that values the importance of ethics and compliance
- Strive for operational efficiency by encouraging continuous improvement in MBB’s processes
- Regularly inform and update the Board of Directors on upcoming developments and matters falling within the CEO’s remit
Requirements:
- Minimum tertiary level of education – a degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, EU Affairs, International Relations or a related field would be desirable
- Goal- oriented and driven leader with a proven track record
- Knowledge and experience in EU affairs would be desirable
- High ethical standards
- Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Excellent communicator and team player
- Ability to network and develop effective relationships with different stakeholders
- Strong motivator
- Political astuteness – high degree of sensitivity to political developments in Malta and EU
- Strong commitment to sustainability
